about new moon ecotherapy

behind the name

Someone I loved once gave me

a box full of darkness.

It took me years to understand

that this too, was a gift.

-Mary Oliver

Often we find ourselves in literal and figurative darkness, especially in the Pacific Northwest. Maybe the seasons have changed leading to shorter days with less sunlight. Maybe we are immersed in a particularly difficult experience, situation, or phase of life. Or maybe the lantern guiding our path has yet to be illuminated. The new moon symbolizes new beginnings. Regardless of situation or circumstance, New Moon Ecotherapy prioritizes a collaborative approach in helping you create your own light. This light serves to guide your journey toward new beginnings that are in alignment with your authentic self.

values driven practice

Authenticity

We can’t be all things to all people, we can only be ourselves. We are all valuable as people and our worth is not tethered to external things such as our productivity. New Moon Ecotherapy is a practice dedicated to recognizing and honoring the uniqueness of each person with the ultimate goal of creating an environment where everyone feels they can be themselves.

Connection

We are all connected and our Earth is a system which we are part of! New Moon Ecotherapy is about restoring and deepening our connection to ourselves, our bodies, our communities (friends and chosen families), spirituality, and our Earth. Each of these can look different and be defined differently from person to person so this work is led by each individual.

Justice

Social and environmental justice are central to the values of New Moon Ecotherapy. We work from a lens of decolonization, deconstructing society’s dominant narratives, shedding unwanted social identities and ways of being, and de-commodifying ourselves, our time and relationships. We are mindful of our presence in various spaces and are dedicated to finding a balance between giving and taking space.

Alignment

Having congruence between personal values and professional values is important. New Moon Ecotherapy acknowledges the negative economic and societal influences on our lives and in particular, our mental health. The practice and therapists view problems and distress as systemic and treat them in a holistic fashion.

land acknowledgment

I wish to acknowledge the sovereignty of the indigenous custodians of the land on which my psychotherapy practice New Moon Ecotherapy PLLC and my home are currently residing and their Elders past and present, which, as I am situated in what colonizers call “Washington,” includes the Duwamish, Coast Salish, Suquamish, sdukʷalbixʷ (Snoqualmie), Stillaguamish, Snohomish, S’Klallam, Quileute, Queets, Quinault, Qʷidiččaʔa•tx̌ (Makah), Squaxin, Nisqually, Nuxwsa’7aq (Nooksack), Semiahmoo, and the ChalAt’i’lo t’sikAti (Chalat’). I invite you to learn more and make a donation to support the return of their land and culture. I invite residents of Seattle to consider paying rent to the Duwamish Nation as an act of solidarity and step toward justice: https://www.realrentduwamish.org/
